Paulette Irvan

Paulette Irvan, 74, of Murray, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2024, in Murray.

She was born June 24, 1949, in Murray, to Aubrey Perry Farris and Fay (Blalock) Farris.

She was a retired medical receptionist for Primary Care after 30 years of service and was a member of North Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Judy Brumley, and one brother, James Ed Farris.

Mrs. Irvan is survived by one daughter, Stephanie Kelly and husband Kevin of Almo; one son, Tony Miller and wife Rhanda of Almo; very special friend, Max Morgan; four grandchildren, Haley Coles and husband Bryan, Kelsey Hays and husband Mogan, Mattie Brazelton and husband Nick, and Kennedy Linton and husband Tyler; and five great-grandchildren, Aubrey Jo Coles, Brycen Coles, Claire Coles, Addy James Hays and Phoebe Jo Linton.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Sammy Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in Hicks Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2024, at the funeral home.

Russell Brewer

Russell Brewer, 78, of Benton, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2024.

He was born Nov. 28, 1945, in Breathitt County, Kentucky, to Jeff Brewer and Jettie Turner Brewer.

Earlier in his life, he worked in construction for Local 1191 and helped build I-24 and Highway 45 from Mayfield to Paducah. After working in construction, he went on to work for 20 years as a custodian for South Marshall Middle School. He was a very active member of Hamlet Baptist Church where he led his Sunday school class and also helped keep the records for Hamlet Cemetery. He was an outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and running his beagles.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bettie York Brewer; three sisters, Callie Brown, Dorothy Noble and Linda Noble; four brothers, Steve Brewer, Lloyd Brewer, Ed Brewer and Vernon Brewer; and his parents, Jeff Brewer and Jettie Turner Brewer.

Russell is survived by his wife, Sharon Brewer; two daughters, Karen Powell (Tim) of Benton and Kathy Bohannon (Rodney) of Murray; two sons, Mark Brewer (Meta) of Murray and Gary Brewer (Denise) of Benton; two step-sons, Jason Story (Leah) of Benton and Justin Story (Tracy) of Benton; one sister, Nancy LaPointe of Pontiac, Michigan; one brother, George Brewer of Fowlerville, Michigan; 10 grandchildren, Amanda Tynes (Eric), Jettie Payne (Barry), Zach Powell (Hilari), Clay Powell, Trevor Bohannon, Kristina Rangel (Mario), Russell Bohannon, Sabrina Spears (Trent), Darbie Chaney, and Jessie Brewer; six step-grandchildren, Jaxon Story, Jace Story, Kinsey Story, Kamden Story, Kendal Story and Lexi Story; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2024, at the Life Celebration Center of Filbeck-Cann with Johnny Coffenberry officiating. Burial will follow in Hamlet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2024, at the funeral home.

Nova Lynn Gleich

Nova Lynn Gleich, 5 months old, of Murray, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Murray Calloway County Hospital.

Nova was born on December 27, 2023 in Murray, KY to Nicholas and Caitlyn Gleich.

She is preceded in death by her great grandmothers, Lori Mills and Pat “Minnie” Housley.

Sandra Jewel Mason

Sandra Jewel Mason, 82, of Murray, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at her home.

She was born Nov. 2, 1941, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, to Roy K. Mason and Emily (Bryant) Gresham. She retired as an office manager for Wesley at Murray and was a member of First Baptist Church in Murray.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W. Clifton Malpass, and a daughter, Lisa Diane Malpass.

Mrs. Mason is survived by one daughter, Laurie (Malpass) Edminster and husband Warren of Murray; two sisters, Frankie Patterson and husband Pat of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Retta Smith and husband Dale of Lyman, South Carolina; one brother, R. Ken Mason and wife Debby of Boiling Springs, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Ashlee (Edminster) Rosa and husband Robert of Louisville, Lauren Edminster and Hannah Edminster both of Murray; and three great-grandchildren, Ellis Irene Rosa, Ruth Ann Rosa and Josiah Clifton Rosa, all of Louisville.

A memorial service was at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2024, in the chapel of First Baptist Church with Robert Rosa officiating. Visitation was from 1-2 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2024, in the chapel of First Baptist Church. Additional services will be held in Spartanburg, South Carolina, at a later date.

J.B. Starks

J.B. Starks, 96, of Kirksey, Kentucky, passed away Monday, May 27, 2024, at his home.

He was born April 8, 1928, in Calloway County, Kentucky, to Howell Starks and Mary (Darnall) Starks.

He retired from the Tappan Stove Plant and later worked for Starks Brothers Mobile Homes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Louise (Bennett) Starks; three sisters; and two brothers.

Mr. Starks is survived by one daughter, Beverly Turner of Murray; one son, Phil Starks and wife Rita of Murray; one sister, Glenda Brooks Murphy of Murray; three grandchildren, Ashlee Turner Estes, Austin Turner and Misty Starks Darnell; and three great-grandchildren, Layne Bullock, Brynlee Bullock and Maylen Darnell.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2024, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Tim Palmer officiating. Burial will follow in Murray Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2024, at the funeral home.

Catherine Garza

Catherine Garza, 63, of Murray, Kentucky, passed away Monday, May 27, 2024, at the Murray-Calloway County Hospital.

She was born Oct. 15, 1960, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Robert Williamson and Jeannine Bare Williamson, who preceded her in death.

She was a retired caregiver with Behavior Support Services and a US Army veteran.

Mrs. Garza is survived by three sons, Gilberto Garza Jr. of Murray, Nolan Garza and wife Charity of Paducah and Nicholas Garza and wife Lizzy of Murray; a brother, Bobby Williamson and wife Eli of Medicine Park, Oklahoma; three sisters, Debbie Williamson and Margaret Nielson, both of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Jeannie Tanner of Hopkinsville; nine grandchildren, Serenity Garza, Lucas Garza, Raven Garza, Keyari Garza, Adrian Garza, Carter Garza, Grayson Garza and Deacon Garza; and two great-grandchildren, Zayne and Hardin Garza.

A memorial visitation will be from 2-4 p.m., Monday, June 3, 2024, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Military honors will be performed by VFW Post 6291 immediately following visitation.
