DAN CUPID WDre AGAIN Bat Re Had To Have Help Ot Reporters To Do It. With the aid of three reporters the love of Sudler C. Reeves, 23 years old, for pretty Annie two years his Junior, which had been thwarted by mother of the young nad Its culmination at Old St. Paul's Episcopal Church about 11 o'clock this morning. The young rouple repeated the words of the mar riage service after Rev.

Wyllls Rede, assistant rector ot the church in eager tones, and went forth from the edifice with smiling faces. It came about this way. Sudler Reeves, who lives at 1233 North. Gay street, and Annie Murray, 1427 Ashland avenue, had been sweethearts since they went to grammar school together. Mrs.

Louis Murray! mother of the girl, had never liked Reeves, and as the young ones grew up the mother's objections grew stronger. Matters came to a crisis on July 10, when Miss Murray met her sweetheart near her home. The two became Involved in a dispute brought on by Reeves' Impatience at Mrs. Murray's opposition to him. The girl went home In tears and Mrs.

Murray, who noticed a red mark on her forehead, questioned her daughter closely and Annie In a tit of temper told her mother that Reeves struck her. Yesterdsy afternoon mother and daughter went to" the Northeastern Police Station and had a warrant sworn out lor rieeves. Me was arrested last night. This morning he faced. Justice Llewellyn.

Mrs. Murray, with her daughter, were on on hand, but Annie refused to speak a word against him and pleaded with the magistrate to allow Sudler to go free. Mrs. Murray Insisted that he be fined and sent to Jail and then mother and daughter had a wordy battle. Finally Justice Llewellyn ordered Reeves back to a cell.

As he was led away Miss Murray burst Into tears and refused to leave the station until he was released? and said she would go to Jail with blm. Finally one of the reporters called Miss Murray aside and suggested that she ao home with her mother and then return to the station. Annie left the courtroom with Mrs. Murray, but In five minutes came running back and inquired anxiously tor Reeves. In the meantime the reporters had been busy with the msgistrate and Justice Llewellyn finally agreed to release Reeves when Miss Murray declined to prosecute.

Outside the station the couple were asked If they had any plans, and replied that they had not. "Why, this girl has left her home, for you," Reeves was told. "I'm going to marry her anyhow, so what's the difference?" he ahswered. "Suppose we go down to the Courthouse and get the license now," suggested the reporter. Annie Jumped at the proposition.

"I'm ready," she said. In a few moments the party was on ths way to the Court of Com mon Pleas. One of the reporters applied for ths license, and another paid for it, as tne party wss leaving the Courthouse, Rev. Mr. Rede met them and asked if a clergyman was needed.

At his suggestion all repaired to the church on Charles street, where the knot was tied. The third reporter performed his part of the proceedings by furnishing the wedding ring. Then everybody shook bsnds with everybody else and each went his way. Young Reeves, who Is a distant rela-tlve to Coroner Sudler, of ths Eastern district, said that he would probably tr ke his wife to New York or Atlantic City, ss he has been offered positions with stock brokers In both plscee. Cbsrles Evan Hughes, Governor of New York and future Supreme Court Justice, with Mrs. Hughes, Is facing the glare of Washington's asphalt todsy on a second house-hunting tour. 1 The Governor and Mrs. Hughes started out early In a 'large touring car with Major Crossett, the Gov ernor's military aide, Mrs. Crossett and Charles Henry Butler, reporter of the Supreme Court, who Is the Governor's host.

1 Real estate men find the Hughes family difficult to suit, for the Governor wants a library wltfl the house built around It, and Mrs. Hughes wants garden with lots of toweling trees, the house to her be-Ing a secondary consideration. The children, In the meantime, added one agent, centre their affections od the dining room. Several pro Maryland delegates reached thie morning to attend the Joint feting of the Maryland and, Vlr-la Bar Associations. jUnons; them were Messrs. William Wheatley and F. G. Turner, of lltlmore; R.

In fact, the Justice looks very ch like Senator Smith did 10 years i. Among those who talked with for some time was Chief Judge I Hunter Boyd, of the Maryland prt of Appeals. 1 tr.

Wbttelock First Speaker. the presidents of both associations Bided at the Joint session this fating. The first paper of the day I Mr. George Whltelock'e, of Baltl-re, which dealt with "The Present teral Law of Damages for Death by exigence at Sea." Ir. Whitelock went into the sub-; of maritime law in a most com-hensive and interesting manner, wing that as the law now stands re is not one chance out of ten for relatives of a man 'killed on the seas recovering any indemnity, inge as it may seem, the sailor, Is so carefully looked after in it respects by our Government, is unprotected in case of death.

Mr. itelock urged the need of reform this and other Instances. He said, )art: Three proposed reforms in ad-alty have recently received the at-tion of the Congress of the United tes. The bills introduced at the tember session, 1909, are respect-ly entitled as follows, I. A bill relating to liens on ves-I for repairs, supplies or other essaries.

8. A bill to permit suits against United States for damages caused weasels owned or operated by the ted States. 4. A bill to authorize the malnte- ice of actions for negligence caus- jdeath in maritime cases. JThe first of these aits, relating to is on vessels, became the law of i United States on June 23, 1910, Mi it received the Executive sig-ure.

i Death Not Aa Injury. Passing to the civil liability in ad-alty f6r the death of a human be-i it Is a singular fact that by the 'nnon law of England the greatest iry which one man can Inflict "on ther, ttfe taking of his life, is wlth- a private remedy, or, as stated by Ellenborough, 'in a civil court death of a huf Ji being could not somplained of wan injury. On August 26, 1846, Parliament treated the ancient rule of the Eng- realm and gave a civil right of on lor aeain. similar legislation jitlng personal responsibility has owed in most of the American rallies. The House of Lords, it is has held the terms of the Eng-i statute Inapplicable to suits In United Slatea Far Behind.

But prior to' this legislation the imon law of England, as already lalned, denied the recovery for th. The numerous authorities on point are so uniform that the Ited States supreme uoun nas saia it is impossible to speak of the etlon as open. Unless changed by tute this archaic law still prevails rywhere in the United States, eating perhaps In Louisiana. From the foregoing it is apparent I there Is no present right of re-ry for loss of life by negligence 'the high seas either by the gen-1 maritime law of the United States )y Federal statute. I Reform Weeded.

ft is to be hoped that Congress i- speedily grant the right of civil In death cases provided by fd Campbell's act and Conti- Ital Codes.
