I wanted to like the person and the movie, and even though her bio is fascinating, this movie takes too long and is downright unpleasant. While not as good as David O. Russell's previous films, Joy is still worth watching for Jennifer Lawrence's great performance and some lovely, well-written scenes.

Fresh score. The film yields every now and then so viewers can catch their breath, but once this taut and frantic thriller picks up speed again, Joy Ride earns its place as one of the best movies of its kind.

Writer-director Sofia Alvarez, writer of "To All the Boys I've Loved Before" and its sequel, finds the heart and soul in her teenage characters. Content collapsed. Along for the Ride is refreshing as a romantic teen movie that doesn't caricaturize young adults or trivialize their problems.
