Elwood Lee Hensley, 75, went to be with his Lord Wednesday, June 18, 1997, at 8:26 p.m. at his home in the Mt. Pleasant section of Elkton, Virginia, in the presence of his loving, caring wife Edna Mae Dean Hensley, whom he married on January 11, 1941 (56 years ago).

Also present at the time of his death were his faithful, loving children, Ruby Mae Breeden and husband Randolph Breeden, Mervil Elwood Hensley and wife Peggy D. Hensley, Mary Frances Lam and husband Roger Lee Lam, all of Elkton, and Faye Vickers and husband Sam of Mt. Solon.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Steven and Chris Breeden, Mike (companion Shannon), Travis (wife Denise), Lyne (fiance Chip Breeden) and Deanna "Dee" (friend Brian George) Hensley, and Vanessa Breeden (husband Steven W.), all of Elkton, and Duane Lam (wife Sheila), Franklin, N.C., and Troy Allen Breeden (wife Angela) San Antonio, TX.

Also surviving are three great grandsons, Zachary and Joshua Lam, Franklin, N.C., and Coty Richardson; and one great granddaughter, Emily Breeden, Elkton, Va. Also surviving are two sisters, Nina P. Hensley and Evelyn J. Turner, both of Newport News, Va.; and a brother, George S. Hensley, Elkton.

He was preceded in death by his twin brother Linwood R. Hensley.

He was born June 28, 1921, in Elkton, Va., and was the son of the late Albert Lee Hensley and Ila Virginia Dean Hensley.

Mr. Hensley worked in the CCC camp's and retired as a heavy equipment operator for the B.K. Hayes Corporation in 1987. He was a charter, active member, and was instrumental in the formation of the Massanutten Hunt Club and was past president, a member of the National Rifleman's Association,
AARP, the Elkton Junior Order O.U.A.M. and the Blue Ridge Independent Church in Elkton.

The Revs. Gerald Meeks and Kinzy Reed will conduct the funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21. 1997, at the Blue Ridge Independent Church located on Highway 33, Elkton, Va.

Burial will be at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.

The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Friday, June 20, 1997, at the Kyger & Trobaugh Funeral Home in Elkton, Va. The casket will remain closed to the public.

The Massanutten Hunt Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to Weekday Religious Education, or to Lifecare Medical Transport.
